A pause is a pause,
not the end.
Speech is stop-and-go. You pause mid-thought, and what you want at the end is text — not a recording. Most dictation apps treat every pause as "done". Comma treats it as "let me think, then continue". Hold to speak, release to pause, finish when you are ready.
Built for people who pause mid-sentence
Dictating meeting notes on a walk, recording a thought in a meeting, or drafting a document out loud — all share the same shape: interrupted, full of pauses, and what you need is text.
Release is pause
Release the button and it turns amber with a "Finish" action. Hold again to continue, or finish the round. Sliding off the circle also just pauses.
Text as you speak
In online mode the words appear live. Tapping Finish usually returns the full transcript in under a second.
Tap to latch, record in background
Tap once to latch the recording and keep going with the screen off or the app in the background. Tap again to pause.
Offline recognition
Recognize entirely on device with downloadable models in several size tiers. No network required.
Import existing audio
Share audio from Voice Memos or Files into Comma and it starts transcribing right away. Continue recording after it, in the same record.
Hotwords
Add names, jargon and company terms so recognition prefers them, reducing near-homophone mix-ups.

Hold to speak
Press and hold the big round button. A red breathing ring and waveform confirm recording.

Release to pause
Release only pauses. Hold again whenever you are ready — a round can be as long as you like.

Finish
Tap Finish for the full text, saved to History. Copy it, or continue recording to append to the same record.
